Join us at Kingston United Reformed Church at 17:30 on Thursday 3rd December to take part in A Good Childhood Conversation.

Childhood today is more complicated than ever before. Modern society offers more opportunities and material wealth than for previous generation but many young people also face a range of issues such as obesity, anxiety, broken homes, peer pressure, stress from school and exams; alcohol and bullying.

At the Good Childhood Conversation members of the local community will have the chance to discuss how we can make childhood better in Kingston. Based on the challenging finding of The Good Childhood Inquiry, comissioned by The Children’s Society, we will be debating the local issues and working on positive solutions to make childhood better for the children and young people in our area.

If you care about the wellbeing of all children, we would love you to be involved in the Conversation. Together we can make childhood better.

To find out more about the Children’s Society, The Good Childhood Inquiry and The Good Childhood Conversations go to www.childrensociety.org.uk

To let us know you are attending or for more information please email: emilyrayoung@hotmail.com If childcare for school-aged children will prevent you attending please talk to Emily as there may be ways around this.

Have you heard that we are raising money to install a shower and accessible toilets on the ground floor of our premises? These will be available to people in the community – for example, when we help to run the Night Shelter next winter, it will be a great boon. There are all sorts of schemes afoot to raise money, and YOU can join in this one if you ever ride a bicycle or enjoy walking around the town. It is called “Ride or Stride” and it is a sponsored cycle ride under the umbrella of Surrey Churches Preservation Trust.

All you need to do is to obtain a sponsor form from Susan Gunasekera, our Kingston URC organiser, on 07813 485833 and suzzana97@hotmail.com find people who will sponsor you, then ride or walk around as many participating churches in the Kingston area during Saturday 12th September. At each church someone should be on hand to sign your form, give you some refreshments and speed you on your way.

Surrey CPT organises this Ride every September. Cyclists/walkers collect their sponsor money; half of it goes to our cause (the Shower Project), and half of it goes to Surrey CPT into their pot for other churches in need of funds. We received a helpful sum from them when we did our major alterations 5 years ago.
Go on – sign up!
